GetResponse
Connect Post Affiliate Pro with GetResponse to add every approved affiliate to your GetResponse list, fill custom fields and keep contacts up to date. Setup guide with API key and settings.
GetResponse integration
GetResponse is an email marketing and automation platform. The Post Affiliate Pro plugin connects it to your affiliate program, so every affiliate you approve is registered in GetResponse automatically, without any manual export or import. From there you can send them your newsletters or start an autoresponder series.
The plugin follows the affiliate through these moments:
- Approved: the affiliate is added to your GetResponse campaign (list) as a contact.
- Email address changed: the contact in GetResponse gets the new address.
- Declined or deleted: the contact is deleted from GetResponse.
NOTE: The synchronization runs one way, from Post Affiliate Pro to GetResponse. Contacts that exist only in GetResponse do not become affiliates.
How to integrate Post Affiliate Pro with GetResponse
Create a GetResponse API key
In GetResponse open Tools > Integrations and API, go to the API tab and click Generate API key. Give the key a name and copy it. GetResponse shows the key only once, so save it in a safe place. GetResponse also states that an API key that is not used for 90 days expires. If you approve new affiliates only rarely, check from time to time that the key still works, and generate a new one if it does not.
The plugin needs API access. GetResponse lists API access with its paid Starter, Marketer, Creator and Enterprise plans, so check that your plan includes it.
Choose your GetResponse campaign
New affiliates are added to one campaign (the list of contacts) in your GetResponse account. Create it, or choose an existing one, and write down its exact name. The plugin looks the campaign up by name.
Activate the plugin
In your merchant panel navigate to Configuration > Plugins > GetResponse signup > Activate. Then fill in the configuration:
- GetResponse API key: the key from the previous step. Required.
- GetResponse campaign name: the name of the campaign for new affiliates. Required.
- Custom data fields, referral ID, parent user ID and password: details to send as custom fields, see below.
- cycle_day: starts a follow-up cycle, see below.
- GetResponse360 and domain: only for GetResponse360 accounts, see below.
- Register new merchants and its campaign and fields: only in a Post Affiliate Network, see below.
Each field has a hint in the plugin. The plugin does nothing until the API key and the campaign name are filled in.
Send more details as custom fields
By default the plugin sends the name and the email address of the affiliate. To send more, use these options:
- Custom data fields: list the fields of your signup form that you want to send as a comma separated list of their codes, for example data1,data3. See custom fields for how the fields work. The plugin creates a custom field in GetResponse for each one, named after the label of the field in the signup form, with spaces replaced by underscores. Field names longer than 32 characters are cut off, and so is very long content.
- Include affiliate referral id into custom data fields: adds the referral ID as the custom field referralid. Disabled by default.
- Include affiliate parent user Id into custom data fields: adds the ID of the parent affiliate as the custom field parentuserid. Disabled by default.
- Include affiliate password into custom data fields: adds the password value as the custom field affpassword. Disabled by default. Leave it off unless you have a specific reason, because your email tool should not hold affiliate passwords.
If a custom field with that name does not exist in GetResponse yet, the plugin creates it. Empty values are not sent.
Start a follow-up cycle (optional)
The cycle_day option inserts the new contact on a given day of the follow-up cycle of the campaign. The value 0 means the beginning of the cycle. If you leave the option empty, the contact is not inserted into a cycle.
GetResponse360 (optional)
If you use GetResponse360, choose the matching endpoint in the plugin (the .pl or the .com one) and fill in the GetResponse360 domain, which is your registration domain in GetResponse without any prefix. For example, enter example.com for www.example.com . The domain is required when you choose one of these endpoints.
Merchants in a Post Affiliate Network (optional)
In a Post Affiliate Network the plugin shows the option Register new merchants. When it is on, merchants are registered in GetResponse in the same way as affiliates, in their own campaign and with their own custom data fields. Enter the GetResponse campaign name for merchants, which is required once the option is on.
Test the integration
Approve a test affiliate and check that the contact appears in GetResponse in the right campaign, with the custom fields you chose. Then change the email address of the affiliate and check that the contact changes as well.
How does the plugin work exactly?
The plugin reacts to these events:
- An affiliate is approved, either by you or automatically under your affiliate approval settings. The plugin finds your campaign by its name and creates the contact there with the name, the email address, the custom fields and, if you set it, the cycle day.
- An approved affiliate who was never added is saved, for example after the plugin was activated. The affiliate is added at that moment.
- The affiliate’s email address changes. The plugin updates the same contact in GetResponse, so the contact is not duplicated.
- The affiliate is declined or deleted. The plugin deletes the contact in GetResponse.
The plugin remembers which email address it sent to GetResponse for every affiliate. If GetResponse already has a contact with that address, the plugin treats the affiliate as added and does not create another one. Problems with a request are written to the log of the plugin and do not stop the approval of the affiliate.
Use case: an onboarding series for new affiliates
Say you want every new affiliate to receive a welcome series: a welcome message, a walkthrough of your marketing materials, and a reminder to grab their first affiliate link. Build the series as an autoresponder in the GetResponse campaign for affiliates and set the cycle_day option to 0.
From then on, every approved affiliate enters the cycle at the beginning on the day they are approved. With the referral ID sent as a custom field, the emails can also include the affiliate’s own referral ID, and with custom data fields you can address each affiliate by details from your signup form.
Use GetResponse for this kind of nurturing, and keep the email templates built into Post Affiliate Pro for transactional messages such as commission and payout notices.
